edit History
Grove Mill was established in Marlborough in 1988, by a group of wine lovers who built the winery on the site of an historic Malt house (The Mill), a Marlborough landmark in Grovetown, Blenheim - Hence the name Grove Mill.
The first production was 530 cases of 1988 Grove Mill Marlborough Riesling. Since then, Grove Mill has grown to encompass a range of other varietals, including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir.
Grove Mill doubled its production each year for the first 5 years. In 1993 it started exporting to the United Kingdom and Hong Kong.
In 1993, Grove Mill purchased new land in Waihopai Valley, 14 kilometres west of Blenheim. A state-of-the-art winery was built there, capable of processing 1000 tons of grapes (around 70,000 cases). New Zealand's Prime Minister himself officially opened this new premise on the 3rd September 1994.
In 2006, Grove Mill became the first winery in the world to be certified carbon neutral up to and including the port of entry in export markets, through the New Zealand CarboNZero Programme. Their efforts include habitat restoration, greywater recycling and the use of organic mulch as fertilizer.
